Dr. Annika Bremhorst

Our founder and CEO, canine scientist and dog behaviour consultant

Journey

Dr. Annika Bremhorst is the founder and CEO of Dogs and Science. Her career as a multi-award-winning canine scientist, professional dog consultant, and book author has been deeply committed to bridging the gap between canine science and practical application. Motivated by a profound desire to understand and enhance our interactions with dogs, she transitioned from a passionate dog professional to a recognized dog scientist. Her specialised work in studying canine behaviour, emotions, pain, and the innovative use of AI for behaviour analysis has enabled her to make substantial contributions to the field, creating a meaningful impact on both the scientific community and society. In addition to leading Dogs and Science, she is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Bern, an honour research fellow at the University of Lincoln, and a research associate of the Tech4Animals Lab at the University of Haifa.

Kati Stangl

Our communications expert

Kati Stangl is a dedicated member of Dogs and Science, enriching the team with her extensive background in communications, bringing a dynamic blend of public speaking, broadcasting, and theatrical expertise to our outreach efforts. Her career in media includes roles as a radio presenter for different radio stations, enhancing her ability to engage a wide audience. She also has significant experience in performance arts, participating in bands, musicals, and as an ensemble member. With a degree in Theatre and Media from the University of Bayreuth, Kati applies her skills at Dogs and Science to convey scientific insights in an accessible, educating, and engaging manner, effectively bridging the gap between complex research and public understanding.

Dr. Giulia Pedretti

Our canine scientist and dog trainer

Dr. Giulia Pedretti is a canine scientist and dog trainer at Dogs and Science. An accomplished postdoctoral researcher at the Domestic Dog Ethology Lab at the University of Parma, she brings a rich blend of academic research and practical training expertise. She specializes in dog behaviour, communication, cognition, and olfactory abilities, with her research focusing on the communicative functions of self-directed behaviours in domestic dogs. Beyond academia, she is a certified dog trainer and educator, skilled in general and hunting dog training, and serves as an instructor in olfactory activities.

Dr. Greta Abele is the veterinarian at Dogs and Science, bringing extensive experience in veterinary medicine from her studies and practice across Germany and Austria. Dr. Abele has practiced veterinary medicine in various locations, enhancing her expertise in animal health and welfare. Her commitment continues to impact veterinary care, advancing both the science and well-being of animals.
