Assessing Addictive-Like Behaviours in Dogs
Addictive-like behaviours in dogs refer to extreme, obsessive tendencies that resemble addiction in humans. These behaviours can manifest in various ways, such as a dog’s intense fixation on toys like balls (“ball junkies”), often to the detriment of their overall well-being and daily functioning. Such behaviours, if not managed, can lead to stress and anxiety for both the dog and their owners. In collaboration with a team of esteemed colleagues, we are working on a project aimed at developing a comprehensive questionnaire to assess addictive-like behaviours in dogs. This effort seeks to contribute to the understanding and management of these behaviours in the field of canine behaviour research.
